Yesterday was a hard day. But God knew.  At just the right moment He prompted three friends to reach out and show His never ending, always faithful love for me. Do you believe this to be true?

Whether you believe God works in this way, or you call this type of occurrence coincidence or something else altogether, I ask that you hang out with me for a few minutes for this story. I started this blog with one main intention – to share God’s love and faithfulness in my life with you, and in doing so, maybe encouraging you a little in yours.  Today I hope to do just that.

When I was still seeking a relationship with God, I marveled at testimonies of God’s hand in people’s lives.  And as a new believer, I didn’t really think it could happen in my life, but I enjoyed hearing the stories of those who experienced that kind of connection.  What I don’t think I realized at the time was that hearing stories of how God works personally in people’s lives, opened the possibility that maybe someday it could also happen to me. I’d love the chance to do that for your today, as I share a few tiny miracles that I experienced yesterday.  I call them miracles because they were unexpected, but so very needed and came virtually out of nowhere, at just the right time.

Not once, but three times.

God used three unrelated people, two of which I speak to fairly regularly, and one I don’t, to encourage me on a day when I felt as if I was losing hope.  What they did was simple, nothing spectacular or particularly special, but because I know my Heavenly Father and His love for me, I saw these simple gestures as encouragement from Him, and a day that could have taken me down left me feeling hopeful and known instead.

The first happened in the form of a song.  Some of you know that I am the Coordinator for two-day wellness events called Rev on the Road hosted by Revelation Wellness and local Instructors around the country.  I often say it’s the best job in the world, one of my favorite parts is having the opportunity to work with local hosts to put on these events.  Danae is the host I’m currently working with in Florida.  She’s been a joy, and is often the case with Revelation Wellness Instructors, we go beyond business as usual and share our lives, lifting each other up in prayer as we work.  She knows a bit about my current situation and has been very thoughtful in praying for me, but it’s safe to say she didn’t know about the struggle I was having yesterday, when she sent me this.

She texted to say she heard this song that reminded her of God’s continued faithfulness, and I was put on her heart to share it with.

Before sharing the song with you, you need to know that not only was I down with the stomach flu, but I had received a phone call thirty minutes earlier with some very discouraging news.  News that disrupted what I’ve been praying for and counting on to begin the path of healing I am so desperately seeking.

Here are some of the words to the song:

While I wait – Lincoln Brewster

Chorus

I live by faith and not by site, sometimes miracles take time

While I wait, I will worship, Lord I’ll worship your name

While I wait, I will trust you, Lord I’ll trust you all the same

When I fall apart, you are my strength, help me not forget

Seeing every scar, you made me, you’re my healer

Repeat Chorus

You’re faithful every day

Your promises remain

REPEAT – You’re faithful everyday – your promises remain

Though I don’t understand it, I will worship with my pain

You are God, you are worthy, you are with me all the way

While I wait, I will worship, Lord I’ll worship your name

Though I don’t have all the answers, still I trust you all the same.

I was amazed at the timing of Danae texting me this song.  Just after receiving that call, just when I needed encouragement.  Just when, once again, the questions began to creep in – “Lord, where are you in all of this?”

God is such a personal God.  Although I haven’t received my big miracle yet, and when I looked around yesterday, I felt like I was drowning, I was floored to receive this encouragement from Him.  How do I know it was from God?  Because I’ve been asking.  I’ve been begging really, and my eyes and ears are open.  Plus, did you read the words of that song? Come on! I love how God uses the body of Christ to show His love and to keep us grounded when we begin to falter.  There’s nothing like it, nothing.

And did I mention that another friend and co-worker messaged me that same morning before all of this, just to ask how she could pray for me?  It is such a gift to receive a message like that first thing in the morning, knowing that someone cares enough to lift you up in prayer.  Like I said, a simple act, nothing spectacular but miraculous just the same.

But wait, there’s more!

A longtime friend and sorority sister I rarely speak to texted me later in the day saying God put me on her heart and she was praying for me and sent me this –

“Find rest, O my soul, in God alone, my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.”   Psalm 62:5-6

At this point I was wowed beyond words because this text came right after I ran into a roadblock with a simple project I was working on, one that has never been an issue before. This text came just the moment I was beginning to doubt again and thought, “Come on, can anything else go wrong today?”

So, there you have it.  My current list of tiny miracles, miracles reminding me that God has not forgotten about me.  Reminding me of His faithfulness in the waiting.  Reminding me of how personal He is, how He is in fact listening.  And although I haven’t received my miracle yet, He knows the big picture and I can trust Him completely.

I will not be shaken.

If you’ve been asking God for something, if you’ve been crying out and feel like you aren’t getting answers, believe me I know how hard it is.  But take heart, my friend, your God has not left you. Keep your eyes and ears open for the way He uses others to show you His love.  He’s always working on your behalf.

I love to journal and highly recommend you write your answers down.
1. Have you experienced answered prayer and encouragement through simple acts of kindness? Did you see it as love from God?  Why or why not?

2.  Have you felt prompted to encourage someone out of the blue with a song or a helpful word? How was that experience for you?

3.  Are you currently waiting on an unanswered prayer? If so, spend some time in prayer (talk to God) and ask Him to open your eyes and ears to the different ways He wants to speak with you in the waiting.

Comment and let me know if you’ve had a similar experience, I’d love to hear how God has encouraged you!
